Eurax HC Cream combines crotamiton with a mild steroid to calm the inflammation and itch of mild to moderate eczema, contact dermatitis and insect bite reactions.
What is Eurax HC Cream 15g?
Eurax HC is a cream with two actives: crotamiton, which relieves itching, and a low dose of hydrocortisone, a mild steroid that settles inflammation. It is used for the inflammation and itch of mild to moderate eczema, irritant and allergic contact dermatitis, and insect bite reactions.
How does it help?
Hydrocortisone is a mild corticosteroid. Applied thinly to the skin it damps down the local inflammatory response, so the redness, swelling and heat of an eczema patch or bite reaction settle down. Crotamiton works alongside it on the itch itself, which helps break the scratch-and-flare cycle while the inflammation comes down.
Key benefits
- Two actions in one cream — a mild steroid for the inflammation and crotamiton for the itch
- Useful for insect bite reactions and flare-ups of mild to moderate eczema
- Applied sparingly twice a day over a small area, for up to one week
- A pharmacy medicine, so our pharmacist checks it is right for you before it is dispensed
Who should take care?
Always read the patient information leaflet before use. For external use only, applied thinly to a small area twice a day for no longer than one week unless a doctor tells you otherwise. Do not use it on skin that is infected — bacterial, viral or fungal, including cold sores — on ulcerated areas, or on weeping, acutely inflamed skin, and do not use it if you are sensitive to crotamiton, hydrocortisone or any of the other ingredients. Do not cover it with a dressing that seals the skin, and keep it away from the eyes and mucous membranes. Not for children under 10 except under medical supervision. It is not recommended in pregnancy, particularly in the first three months, or while breastfeeding unless a doctor has advised it. It contains parabens, stearyl alcohol and propylene glycol, which can cause skin reactions in some people, and it is flammable on skin and fabric, so keep away from naked flames. Stopping after long use can bring on a rebound flare — come and speak to us if that happens.
