What is Deep Heat Rub 35g?

Deep Heat Rub is the original Deep Heat cream. It combines methyl salicylate and menthol with eucalyptus and turpentine oils and is licensed for the symptomatic relief of muscular pains and stiffness, including backache, sciatica, lumbago, fibrositis, rheumatic pain, chilblains, bruises and sprains, including those from minor sports injuries. It can be used before or after exercise.

How does it help?

Methyl salicylate is an aspirin-like substance that gives mild local pain relief where it is rubbed in. Menthol, eucalyptus oil and turpentine oil are rubefacients: they widen the small blood vessels in the skin, producing a feeling of warmth that takes the edge off the deeper ache and helps a tight muscle relax. Massage a thin layer into the affected area two to three times a day and wash your hands straight after.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Do not use if you are allergic to any of the ingredients or to painkillers such as aspirin, ibuprofen and other NSAIDs. Ask our pharmacist or doctor before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have asthma, or take any prescribed medicine, in particular a blood-thinning or antiplatelet medicine. For external use on unbroken skin only; try a small area first, keep it away from the eyes and sensitive areas, do not cover it with a dressing, and wash hands immediately after use. Do not smoke or go near naked flames while using it: clothing, bedding and dressings that have been in contact with the cream catch fire more easily, and washing does not fully remove it. Not for children under 5. Stop if the skin becomes very irritated, and see your GP if the pain persists.
