Ashton & Parsons Teething Powders are a traditional herbal medicine for babies from 3 months, used to relieve teething pain and the sore gums, flushed cheeks and dribbling that come with it, based on traditional use only.

What is Ashton & Parsons Teething Powders 20 Sachets?

Individually wrapped sachets of a fine powder carrying a small amount of chamomile flower tincture, registered with the MHRA as a traditional herbal medicine. They are used for the relief of teething pain and the symptoms that go with it, sore and tender gums, flushed cheeks and dribbling, based on traditional use only. The powder is tipped slowly onto the front of the baby's tongue, a little at a time, while the baby is upright.

How does it help?

Chamomile (Matricaria) has a long history of use for soothing teething babies, and the traditional herbal registration covers exactly that use. The powder is lactose-based and dissolves on the tongue, carrying the small dose of chamomile with it. Because this is a traditional registration, its use rests on long experience rather than clinical trials. It contains no painkiller and no local anaesthetic.

Key benefits

  • A traditional herbal remedy for teething pain, sore gums, flushed cheeks and dribbling, based on traditional use only
  • Contains no paracetamol, ibuprofen or local anaesthetic
  • Simple single-dose sachets, given morning and evening
  • Suitable from 3 months old

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Not recommended for babies under 3 months. Do not give it if your baby is allergic to chamomile, to other plants of the daisy (Asteraceae/Compositae) family, or to any of the other ingredients; chamomile can trigger an allergic reaction or make symptoms worse in babies prone to allergy, including those with asthma. Each sachet contains 130mg of lactose, so it should not be given to a baby with the rare inherited conditions galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption, and giving too much can cause diarrhoea. Give half a sachet morning and evening from 3 to 6 months and one sachet morning and evening from 6 months; if needed a dose can be repeated every 1 to 3 hours, with no more than six doses in 24 hours. If symptoms get worse or last more than 7 days, see your doctor or pharmacist. A high temperature, refusing feeds, or being unusually floppy or drowsy are not signs of teething and need medical advice. Our pharmacist is happy to check it is right for your baby before it is supplied.
