What is Deep Heat Max Strength Cream 35g?

Deep Heat Max Strength is a higher-strength version of the Deep Heat warming cream, with 30% methyl salicylate and 8% menthol. It is licensed for the symptomatic relief of muscular pains and stiffness, including backache, sciatica, lumbago, fibrositis, rheumatic pain, bruises and sprains. Massage a thin layer into the sore area two to three times a day and wash your hands afterwards.

How does it help?

Methyl salicylate and menthol are counter-irritants. Rubbed into the skin they create a sensation of warmth that distracts the nerves from the deeper ache, and the massage and warmth encourage blood flow to the sore muscle, which helps it relax. Methyl salicylate is related to aspirin and gives a mild local pain-relieving effect where it is applied.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Do not use if you are allergic to any of the ingredients, or to aspirin or other anti-inflammatory painkillers (NSAIDs), particularly if that reaction involved asthma. Ask our pharmacist or doctor before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you take a blood-thinning or antiplatelet medicine such as warfarin, aspirin or clopidogrel, as salicylates can add to their effect. For external use on unbroken skin only; try it on a small area first, keep it away from the eyes and sensitive areas, do not cover it with a dressing, and expect it to feel hotter in warm weather or after a hot bath. Wash hands thoroughly after use. Not for children under 5. Stop if the skin becomes very irritated or blisters, and see your GP if the pain persists.
