What is Bonjela Junior Gel 15g?
Bonjela Junior Gel is a clear gel that you dab on to a sore patch inside the mouth. It combines a local anaesthetic, lidocaine, with cetylpyridinium chloride, a mild antiseptic. It is licensed for the relief of pain from common mouth ulcers and from denture irritation, in adults and in children from 5 months old. Despite the name, this version is not licensed for teething pain; if that is what you need, ask our pharmacist.
How does it help?
Lidocaine numbs the sore area within a few minutes by temporarily blocking the nerve endings in the lining of the mouth from sending pain signals. Cetylpyridinium chloride helps keep the ulcer or sore spot clean by reducing the bacteria on its surface. A little gel is applied with a clean fingertip or cotton bud; it can be repeated after 20 minutes if needed and then every three hours.

Who should take care?
Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Not for babies under 5 months. Do not use if the person is allergic to lidocaine or other amide-type local anaesthetics, to cetylpyridinium chloride or to any other ingredient, or has a history of methaemoglobinaemia (a rare blood condition). Use with caution, and ask our pharmacist first, if they have a liver or heart problem. Do not exceed the stated dose. If symptoms persist, or an ulcer lasts more than three weeks, see your doctor or dentist. Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
