Colpermin IBS Relief Capsules contain peppermint oil to ease the cramps, bloating and wind of irritable bowel syndrome in adults and young people aged 15 and over.
What is Colpermin IBS Relief Capsules 100?
Colpermin IBS Relief Capsules are a peppermint oil treatment for the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS): stomach cramps, bloating and trapped wind. Each capsule holds 0.2ml of peppermint oil in a special coating that carries it past the stomach to the bowel. This 100-capsule pack suits people who use Colpermin regularly during a flare-up, which the leaflet says is usually one to two weeks, or for longer periods if symptoms persist.
How does it help?
The coated capsule is designed to stay intact in the stomach and release the peppermint oil further down, in the bowel, where IBS symptoms start. Peppermint oil relaxes the muscle in the bowel wall, which calms the spasms behind cramping pain and helps trapped wind pass more easily. The usual dose is one capsule three times a day, swallowed whole with water, increasing to two capsules three times a day if discomfort is severe.
Key benefits
- Eases the cramps, bloating and wind of IBS
- Coated capsules release the peppermint oil in the bowel rather than the stomach
- A dose can be adjusted between one and two capsules, three times a day
- 100-capsule pack for people who use it through a flare-up
Who should take care?
Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Swallow the capsules whole - do not break or chew them. Colpermin contains arachis (peanut) oil, so do not take it if you are allergic to peanuts or soya. It can make existing heartburn worse; stop taking it if that happens. Speak to your doctor before using it if this is the first time you have had these symptoms, if you are 40 or over and your symptoms have changed, or if you have passed blood from the bowel, lost weight or appetite, felt sick, had a fever, recently travelled abroad, or are pregnant. If your symptoms do not improve within two weeks, or new symptoms appear, see your doctor.
