Fast, targeted relief from abdominal cramps, spasms and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) pain.

What is Buscopan IBS Relief Tablets?

Buscopan IBS Relief Tablets contain hyoscine butylbromide 10 mg and are used to relieve the cramps, spasms and abdominal pain caused by Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

How does it help?

Hyoscine butylbromide is an antispasmodic that relaxes the muscle in the wall of the gut, easing the painful spasms that cause IBS cramping.

Key benefits

  • Targets painful gut cramps and spasms
  • Formulated specifically for IBS symptoms
  • Antispasmodic action for abdominal discomfort
  • Convenient tablet you can take as needed
  • A well-known name in IBS relief

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Don't use if you're allergic to any of the ingredients. If you've not been diagnosed with IBS by a doctor, get this confirmed before self-treating. Speak to our pharmacist if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, taking other medicines, or have any ongoing health conditions such as glaucoma or difficulty passing urine.

Common questions

Is Buscopan IBS Relief the same as Buscopan Cramps?
The tablets are the same medicine at the same strength — hyoscine butylbromide 10 mg — whether they come as Buscopan IBS Relief, Buscopan Cramps or on prescription; the NHS says as much. What differs is the licence each pack is sold under: this one is for gut spasm in IBS that a doctor has confirmed. See our IBS page.
Will Buscopan make me drowsy?
It shouldn’t. Hyoscine butylbromide is only partly absorbed and doesn’t enter the brain, so it acts on the gut muscle rather than centrally — and it’s a different medicine from hyoscine hydrobromide, the one used for travel sickness. The NHS lists dry mouth, constipation and blurred vision as the common effects; don’t drive until you can see clearly again.
Who shouldn’t take it?
The licence rules it out if you’re allergic to hyoscine butylbromide, or have myasthenia gravis, narrow-angle glaucoma, megacolon, or a blockage or narrowing of the bowel. It isn’t recommended in pregnancy or while breastfeeding. It’s also meant for IBS a doctor has already confirmed — if nobody has diagnosed you, get that settled before self-treating.
When should I see a doctor rather than treat it myself?
Get checked if severe, unexplained tummy pain persists or worsens, or comes with fever, vomiting, blood in your stool or a change in bowel habit — and if you’re 40 or over and this attack feels different from your usual IBS. The NHS says seek urgent advice for unexplained weight loss, bleeding from your bottom, or a hard lump in your tummy. See a GP if nothing has improved in two weeks.
