Is Aveeno Skin Relief Lotion suitable for eczema?

It’s a cosmetic emollient for very dry, sensitive skin rather than a licensed eczema medicine, so it works as an everyday moisturiser alongside eczema care — it won’t settle an active flare. If eczema is the main problem, Aveeno’s Dermexa cream is the ceramide-based option in the same brand. Our pharmacist can talk you through the difference.

Is it fragranced, and what does the oat in it do?

It’s fragrance-free, which is part of why it suits sensitive skin. The formula pairs Aveeno’s triple oat complex — finely milled colloidal oatmeal, oat oil and oat essence — with shea butter. Colloidal oatmeal has long been used to soothe itchy, irritated skin, while the shea butter and other emollients help the skin hold moisture in.

Is it only for the body, and what sizes do you stock?

Aveeno sells it as a body lotion, and we stock both the 200 ml and 300 ml bottles — the larger one suits anyone covering arms, legs and back every day. It’s for external use and should be kept away from the eyes. If you’re after something for the face specifically, ask our pharmacist for a suggestion.

When should very dry or itchy skin be checked?

If skin cracks, weeps, crusts or fills with pus, becomes hot, swollen or painful, or spreads quickly — or you feel unwell or feverish — get same-day advice from a GP or NHS 111, as that can mean infection.
