E45 Moisturising Lotion (Karo Healthcare) is an emollient lotion classified in the UK as a medical device, sold on general sale in 200ml and 500ml bottles.

What is E45 Moisturising Lotion?

A moisturising lotion for dry, rough or flaky skin, and skin prone to conditions such as dermatitis. Suitable for regular everyday use.

How does it help?

It's an emollient that softens the skin and helps trap moisture, supporting the skin's natural barrier so it feels less dry and tight.

Key benefits

  • Moisturises dry and rough skin
  • Helps the skin hold on to moisture
  • Non-greasy lotion, easy to spread
  • Suitable for frequent daily use
  • For face and body

Who should take care?

For external use. Don't use if you're allergic to any of the ingredients. Stop use and speak to our pharmacist if irritation occurs. Be aware that emollients can make surfaces and clothing flammable, so keep away from naked flames.

Common questions

Can I use E45 Lotion on my face and hands, or just the body?
The manufacturer says it can be used on the hands, body and face. It’s a light, easily absorbed lotion rather than a heavy ointment, which is why people often reach for it in the daytime and for larger areas. It’s for external use only — keep it away from the eyes, and rinse with clean water if any gets in.
Is E45 Lotion suitable for babies?
The manufacturer describes it as suitable for the whole family, including babies over three months — so not for newborns under three months. If a baby’s skin is very dry, cracked, or looks broken or infected, have it looked at rather than treating it at home. Our pharmacist is happy to take a look in store.
Does it contain perfume or lanolin?
It’s free from fragrance, which is part of why it suits sensitive skin, but it does contain hypoallergenic anhydrous lanolin (Medilan) alongside paraffins. If you react to lanolin or wool alcohols, this isn’t the one for you — ask our pharmacist and we can point you to a lanolin-free option in our moisturiser range.
When should dry skin be looked at rather than just moisturised?
If a patch blisters, weeps, crusts or fills with pus, turns hot, painful or swollen, spreads quickly, or you feel unwell or feverish, get same-day advice from a GP or NHS 111 — that can be infected eczema. It’s also worth speaking to someone if dryness keeps returning despite moisturising every day; there may be an underlying cause worth treating.
