What is Zirtek Allergy 10mg Tablets 30?

Zirtek Allergy is a film-coated tablet containing 10mg of cetirizine hydrochloride, an antihistamine. It is used for the relief of hay fever and other allergies to things like dust, pet dander or mould, and for the itching and swelling of nettle rash (urticaria). Because it is a pharmacy medicine, it is sold under the supervision of a pharmacist rather than off the shelf.

How does it help?

Allergy symptoms happen when your body releases a chemical called histamine in response to something harmless, such as pollen. The histamine acts on the lining of your nose, your eyes and your skin, which is what produces the sneezing, streaming and itching. Cetirizine is an antihistamine, so it blocks histamine from acting on those tissues and settles the symptoms. Some people feel drowsy while taking it, so see how it affects you before you drive.

Who should take care?

Cetirizine makes some people drowsy, so find out how it affects you before driving or using tools or machines, and avoid alcohol while taking it. Do not take it if you have ever reacted to cetirizine, hydroxyzine or piperazine-type medicines. Tell us if you have kidney problems, epilepsy or a history of fits, difficulty passing urine or an enlarged prostate, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
