A once-daily fexofenadine 120mg antihistamine tablet for the relief of hay fever symptoms in adults and children aged 12 and over, 30 tablets.

What is Treathay Fexofenadine 120mg Tablets 30?

Treathay is a film-coated tablet containing 120mg of fexofenadine hydrochloride, an antihistamine. It is licensed for the relief of the symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis - hay fever - in adults and children aged 12 years and older. One pack holds 30 tablets, which at the usual dose of one a day covers about a month.

How does it help?

Hay fever happens when your immune system treats pollen as a threat. Cells in the lining of your nose and eyes release histamine, and histamine is what produces the sneezing, the itching, the runny or blocked nose and the streaming eyes. Fexofenadine blocks the receptors that histamine needs to attach to, so the reaction is dampened down and the symptoms settle. It is taken once a day, before a meal.

Key benefits

  • One tablet a day, taken before a meal
  • Licensed for hay fever symptoms in adults and children aged 12 and over
  • 30 tablets in a pack - around a month at the usual dose
  • Fexofenadine is one of the antihistamines that is not generally associated with drowsiness, though the leaflet tells you how it may affect you

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Not for children under 12 - the 120mg strength has not been studied in that age group. Do not take it if you have ever reacted to fexofenadine or to any of the other ingredients. If you are elderly, or you have kidney or liver problems, the official product information (SmPC) says this should only be taken on a doctor's advice, so tell us. If you have a history of heart disease, be aware that antihistamines have been associated with a fast heartbeat and palpitations. Leave two hours between this tablet and any indigestion remedy containing aluminium or magnesium, and tell us if you take erythromycin or ketoconazole, as both raise the amount of fexofenadine in your blood. Speak to us if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, and see your doctor if your symptoms do not settle. Our pharmacist checks it is right for you before it is dispensed.
