What is Psoriderm Scalp Lotion Shampoo?

A medicated shampoo containing distilled coal tar, licensed for the topical treatment of psoriasis of the scalp.

How does it help?

In scalp psoriasis the skin makes new cells far faster than it sheds them, which builds up into thick, scaly, itchy patches. Distilled coal tar slows that overactive turnover and helps soften and lift the scale so it can be washed away, while easing the itch. You wet the hair, work about a fifty-pence-piece sized amount into the scalp until it lathers, leave it a moment, then rinse with warm water.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Do not use it on skin that is acutely sore, weeping or has pus-filled spots, where psoriasis is flaring badly, or where there is an infection. Do not use it if you are sensitive to coal tar or to any of the other ingredients. Keep it away from the eyes and other mucous membranes, and rinse well with water if it gets in. Coal tar can stain fabric and lighter hair. If there is no improvement after four weeks, or your scalp looks or feels worse, stop and speak to our pharmacist or your doctor.
