What is Polytar Shampoo 150ml?

Polytar Shampoo is a medicated shampoo containing coal tar. It is used on the scalp where skin is flaking, scaling or itching, such as dandruff, seborrhoeic dermatitis, and eczema or psoriasis affecting the scalp.

How does it help?

Coal tar helps to slow down the over-rapid production of skin cells on the scalp and softens and loosens the scale that has already built up, so it can be washed away. As the scale lifts, the itching and flaking usually settle.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Keep the shampoo out of the eyes and rinse well if any gets in them. Do not use on broken, weeping, infected or acutely inflamed skin, or if you have ever reacted to coal tar. Coal tar can make skin more sensitive to sunlight and to UV lamps or sunbeds, and it can stain fair or treated hair and fabrics. See your GP if your scalp does not improve, gets worse, or becomes infected. Our pharmacist checks it is right for you before it is dispensed.
