What is Peptac Liquid Peppermint 500ml?

Peptac Liquid Peppermint is an antacid and alginate mixture for heartburn, acid reflux and reflux-related indigestion. The peppermint version contains the same medicine as the aniseed one, so it is simply a matter of which flavour you prefer.

How does it help?

It does two things at once. The antacids, sodium bicarbonate and calcium carbonate, neutralise excess stomach acid. The sodium alginate then reacts with the remaining acid to form a gel-like raft that floats on top of the stomach contents, which helps stop acid and bile splashing back up into the gullet.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. This liquid is high in sodium - 286.5mg per 20ml dose - so speak to us first if you are on a low-salt diet or have heart or kidney problems. Extra care is needed if you have raised blood calcium, calcium deposits in the kidneys, or a history of calcium-containing kidney stones. It is not for children under 12 unless a doctor has advised it.
