What is Gaviscon Infant Sachets 30 Doses?

A powder for reflux in young children - the bringing back up of milk or feed, and the discomfort that goes with it. It is mixed into feed for a bottle-fed child, or with cooled boiled water for a breastfed child. As a pharmacy medicine, our pharmacist checks it is right for your child before it is dispensed.

How does it help?

The two alginates react with the acid in the stomach and set into a soft, thickened gel that floats on top of the stomach contents. That gel acts like a lid: it makes the feed less likely to travel back up the food pipe, and if some does come up, the gel is what reaches the gullet rather than stomach acid.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. This is a pharmacy medicine and our pharmacist will check it is right for your child before it is dispensed. It is not recommended for babies under 1 year unless a doctor is supervising treatment. Do not use if your child has diarrhoea, is vomiting with a high temperature, or shows any sign of dehydration, and do not use it alongside another feed thickener. It contains sodium, so tell us if your child is on a low-sodium diet or has kidney problems. See your GP if the reflux is not improving, your child is not gaining weight, or feeding is becoming distressing.
