Gaviscon Advance Mint Chewable Tablets form a protective barrier over the stomach contents to relieve heartburn, acid reflux and reflux-related indigestion in adults and children aged 12 and over.
What is Gaviscon Advance Mint Chewable Tablets 60?
An alginate antacid in mint chewable tablets, licensed to relieve the symptoms of acid reflux: heartburn, acid regurgitation and reflux-related indigestion, as well as reflux that reaches the throat and causes hoarseness, sore throat or cough.
How does it help?
When chewed and swallowed, the sodium alginate reacts with stomach acid to form a gel-like raft that floats on top of the stomach contents. This raft acts as a physical barrier that helps stop acid, bile and pepsin flowing back up into the food pipe. Take one or two tablets after meals and at bedtime, chewing them thoroughly.
Key benefits
- Relieves heartburn and acid regurgitation by forming a barrier rather than by switching off stomach acid
- Also licensed for reflux symptoms in the throat such as hoarseness and cough
- Can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding if needed
- Chewable, so no water is required
Who should take care?
Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If symptoms have not improved after 7 days, speak to our pharmacist or your GP. Each tablet is high in sodium and also contains potassium, so take care if you follow a low-salt or controlled-potassium diet, have heart failure or reduced kidney function; not for people with kidney failure. Contains aspartame, a source of phenylalanine, which may be harmful if you have phenylketonuria. Leave two hours between Gaviscon Advance and other medicines, especially tetracycline and fluoroquinolone antibiotics, iron, thyroid hormones, chloroquine and bisphosphonates. Children under 12 should only take it on medical advice.
