What is Panadol Advance 500mg Tablets — 32?

Panadol Advance is a paracetamol tablet used to relieve mild to moderate pain such as headache, toothache, period pain and aches, and to bring down a high temperature. This is a larger 32-tablet pharmacy pack.

How does it help?

Paracetamol works centrally in the brain to reduce pain signals and lower a raised temperature. The OptiZorb formulation is designed to help the tablet break down and absorb quickly.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Do not take with any other paracetamol-containing product, and never take more than the stated dose. Common questions

Why does the 32-tablet pack need a pharmacy check?
Same tablet, different pack rules. Panadol Advance is licensed twice: packs up to 16 tablets are general sale, while the 24, 30 and 32 tablet packs are Pharmacy (P) medicines. Nothing about the 500 mg tablet changes — only the quantity — which is why we ask a short suitability question before supplying this pack. The 16-tablet pack is the general-sale one.
Is Panadol Advance stronger than ordinary paracetamol?
No — it’s paracetamol 500 mg, the same strength as standard paracetamol tablets. The difference is OptiZorb, a formulation designed to help the tablet break up and start absorbing faster. It doesn’t make the medicine stronger or longer-lasting, and it doesn’t change what paracetamol is licensed to treat.
Can I take it with ibuprofen?
Adults can take paracetamol at the same time as ibuprofen if they need to, according to the NHS — the two work in different ways. What you must not do is double up on paracetamol: check cold and flu remedies, co-codamol and night-time painkillers, because many already contain it. Our pharmacist will happily check your combination.
How long should I take it for, and when should I see someone?
Paracetamol is for short-term relief. The licence says to seek medical advice if symptoms persist, if headaches become persistent, or if you find you need a painkiller every day — that’s a sign the cause needs looking at rather than covering up. If you think you’ve taken too much, even if you feel fine, ring NHS 111 straight away: paracetamol can damage the liver.
