What is Nurofen for Children 100mg Chewable Capsules Orange 12?
Orange-flavoured soft capsules that a child chews before swallowing, each containing 100mg of ibuprofen. They are licensed for children aged 7 to 12 to bring down a temperature and to relieve mild to moderate pain such as sore throat, dental pain, earache, headache, minor aches and sprains, as well as the symptoms of colds and flu. There is no liquid to measure out.
How does it help?
Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory painkiller (NSAID). It lowers the body's production of prostaglandins, the chemical messengers behind pain, inflammation and fever. The dose depends on age: children aged 7 to 9 take two capsules, and children aged 10 to 12 take three capsules, up to three times in 24 hours. Leave about 6 to 8 hours between doses, and never less than 6 hours. Each capsule is chewed before it is swallowed.
Key benefits
- A fixed 100mg dose in every capsule, with no syringe or spoon to measure
- Chewable orange capsules for children who would rather not swallow a tablet
- Licensed for fever, everyday aches and pains, and cold and flu symptoms in children aged 7 to 12
- A small pack suited to short-term use
Who should take care?
Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Not suitable for children under 7. Do not give it to a child who is allergic to ibuprofen or any ingredient, or to peanuts or soya (the capsules contain soya lecithin), or who has had asthma, wheezing, a runny nose, swelling or hives after aspirin or another anti-inflammatory painkiller. Do not use it if the child has, or has had, a stomach ulcer or bleeding from the stomach or gut, or has severe kidney, liver or heart failure. Take extra care if the child has asthma, kidney or liver problems, lupus, or Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. Avoid it during chickenpox and when a child is dehydrated, for example from vomiting, diarrhoea or not drinking. Do not give it with other medicines containing ibuprofen or other anti-inflammatory painkillers. The capsules contain glucose and sucrose, so they are not suitable for children with rare inherited sugar intolerances. For short-term use only: if your child needs it for more than 3 days, or their symptoms get worse, see a doctor. This is a pharmacy medicine, so our pharmacist checks it is right for your child before it is dispensed.
