What is Nicorette Original Gum 2mg & 4mg 210 Pieces?

A nicotine replacement chewing gum used to relieve nicotine cravings and withdrawal symptoms when you stop smoking, cut down, or cannot smoke for a while. The 2mg strength is for people who smoke 20 or fewer cigarettes a day; the 4mg strength is for those who smoke more than 20.

How does it help?

Each piece releases a controlled amount of nicotine that is absorbed through the lining of the mouth, taking the edge off a craving without the tar, carbon monoxide and other harmful chemicals in tobacco smoke. Chew slowly until the taste becomes strong, then rest the gum against your cheek until the taste fades, and repeat for about 30 minutes. Use a piece whenever you feel the urge to smoke, up to a maximum of 15 pieces a day, then gradually reduce the number over time.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Not for children under 12. Do not use more than 15 pieces a day. Amounts of nicotine that adults tolerate can be very harmful to young children, so keep the gum well out of their sight and reach. Speak to our pharmacist or your GP before using it if you have had a recent heart attack or stroke, or have angina, an irregular heartbeat, uncontrolled high blood pressure, diabetes, a stomach or duodenal ulcer, kidney or liver problems, seizures, an overactive thyroid or a phaeochromocytoma. The gum can stick to dentures and dental work. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, nicotine replacement is preferable to continuing to smoke, but please talk it through with our pharmacist first.
