What is Metanium Nappy Rash Ointment 30g?

Metanium is a distinctive yellow ointment for treating nappy rash. It contains three titanium salts in a water-repellent base and is licensed as a treatment for the rash, not just a barrier against it. You dab a small amount over the sore area and spread it thinly enough that you can still see the skin through it, then repeat at each nappy change.

How does it help?

The titanium salts sit on the skin as a fine, water-repellent layer, so urine and stools are kept off the sore area and cannot keep irritating it. Titanium dioxide and titanium salicylate also have a mild drying, soothing action on inflamed, weeping skin, which helps it settle and heal underneath the ointment.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. For external use only - keep away from your baby's eyes and mouth, and do not use if your baby has reacted to any of the ingredients before. If the rash does not improve or gets worse, is spreading, weeping or blistered, or your baby seems unwell, see a doctor or speak to our pharmacist, because some nappy rashes are caused by thrush or a bacterial infection and need a different treatment. The yellow colour can mark fabric, so let it settle before dressing.
