What is Bepanthen Nappy Care Ointment 100g?
Bepanthen Nappy Care Ointment is a thick, clear barrier ointment for a baby's nappy area. It contains 5% dexpanthenol (pro-vitamin B5) in a base of lanolin and soft paraffin, and is free from fragrance, preservatives, colours and antiseptics. It is used at every nappy change to help protect skin that is prone to nappy rash, and to care for skin that is already a little red or sore.
How does it help?
The ointment spreads into a thin, transparent, water-repellent layer over the skin. That layer keeps wee, poo and moisture from sitting against the skin, which is what causes most nappy rash, while still letting the skin breathe. Dexpanthenol is converted in the skin to pantothenic acid (vitamin B5), which supports the skin's normal repair and helps it hold on to moisture.
Key benefits
- Forms a breathable barrier against the wetness and irritants that cause nappy rash
- Free from fragrance, preservatives, colours and antiseptics, so it suits newborn skin
- Gentle enough to use at every nappy change, on intact skin as well as skin that is already red
- Also useful for adults on dry, chafed or cracked patches of skin
Who should take care?
Always read the instructions before use. For external use only; keep it away from the eyes. Do not use if your baby is allergic to lanolin (wool fat) or any other ingredient. Nappy rash that is bright red with spots around the edge, blistered, weeping, spreading beyond the nappy area or not settling after a few days may be thrush or an infection that needs a different treatment, so ask our pharmacist, health visitor or GP. Also seek advice if your baby is unwell or feverish. Keep the tube out of reach of children.
