Ibuprofen 5% Gel is an anti-inflammatory gel you rub into the skin to relieve backache, rheumatic and muscular pain, sprains and sports injuries, for adults and children over 14.
What is Ibuprofen 5% Gel 100g?
Ibuprofen 5% Gel is a painkilling, anti-inflammatory gel that you apply directly to the painful area. It is for backache, rheumatic and muscular pain, sprains and sports injuries. This listing is the 5% strength in a 100g tube, supplied as a generic medicine.
How does it help?
Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID). When rubbed into the skin it is absorbed into the tissue underneath, where it reduces the prostaglandins that cause pain and swelling. Less of it reaches the bloodstream than when ibuprofen is taken by mouth.
Key benefits
- Applied directly to the area that hurts
- Less of the medicine reaches the bloodstream than when ibuprofen is taken by mouth
- Rub in 5 to 10cm of gel, no more often than every 4 hours and no more than 4 times in 24 hours
- A 100g tube for repeated applications
Who should take care?
Always read the patient information leaflet before use. For use on the skin only: keep it away from the eyes, mouth and inside of the nose and from broken or inflamed skin, do not cover it with an airtight dressing, and wash your hands after each use. Do not use it if you are allergic to ibuprofen or have had asthma, a runny nose, swelling or hives after aspirin or another anti-inflammatory painkiller, if you have kidney failure, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Speak to us first if you have kidney problems, an active stomach ulcer or asthma. Stop using it if a rash develops, and avoid strong sunlight on the treated area. It contains benzyl alcohol, which may cause mild skin irritation. Do not smoke or go near naked flames, because clothing, bedding and dressings that have been in contact with the gel burn more easily. Ask for advice if your symptoms last more than 2 weeks. Not for children under 14 unless a doctor advises it. Our pharmacist checks it is right for you before it is supplied.
