What is Dermol 600 Bath Emollient?
Dermol 600 is an emollient you add to the bath. It is licensed as an aid in the treatment of dry and itchy skin conditions, especially eczema and dermatitis, ichthyosis and xeroderma (very dry skin). Alongside the oils that moisturise the skin, it contains benzalkonium chloride, an antiseptic that helps the skin overcome infection that can set in on top of eczema.
How does it help?
Liquid paraffin and isopropyl myristate spread through the bath water and leave a fine oily layer on the skin, which slows down water loss and replaces some of the natural oils dry skin lacks, easing dryness and itch. Benzalkonium chloride is an antiseptic that reduces the bacteria on the skin. Add up to 30ml to a bath of warm water for adults and children, or up to 15ml for infants, soak for 5 to 10 minutes, then pat the skin dry.

Who should take care?
Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Do not use it if you are sensitive to any of the ingredients. For external use only - keep it away from the eyes. The bath will be slippery, so take care getting in and out, and help children and anyone unsteady on their feet. Fabric that has been in contact with this product (clothing, bedding, towels, dressings) burns more easily, so do not smoke or go near naked flames, and wash fabrics regularly. Speak to our pharmacist or your GP if the skin is weeping, crusted, blistered or looks infected, or is not improving with regular use.
