What is Dermax Therapeutic Shampoo 250ml?

A licensed medicated shampoo for scalps that are scaly, flaky or itchy — the sort of picture seen with dandruff and seborrhoeic dermatitis, and with scalp psoriasis. It is fragrance-light, lathers like an ordinary shampoo and can be used as your regular wash while a flare settles. It is a pharmacy medicine, so it is supplied from behind the counter.

How does it help?

Benzalkonium chloride is an antimicrobial. Flaky, itchy scalp conditions are usually made worse by the mix of yeasts and bacteria that live in the greasy scale on the scalp. Washing with an antimicrobial shampoo reduces that surface load and helps lift the scale away, so the scalp is less irritated between washes.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. For external use on the scalp only. Keep it out of the eyes and rinse thoroughly with water if any gets in. Stop using it and speak to us if your scalp becomes more red, sore or irritated. Tell us if the skin is broken, weeping or crusted, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you are already using another treatment on your scalp. If there is no improvement after a couple of weeks, or the problem is spreading or getting worse, come and speak to our pharmacist rather than continuing. The pharmacist checks your answers before it is supplied.
