Daktarin 2% Powder is a miconazole antifungal dusting powder for fungal skin infections such as athlete's foot, which also helps keep moist areas of skin dry while it works.
What is Daktarin 2% Powder 20g?
Daktarin Powder is an antifungal dusting powder containing 2% miconazole nitrate. It is used on the skin to treat fungal infections such as athlete's foot, including those where certain bacteria have also become involved. Because it is a powder, it also helps to keep warm, moist areas such as between the toes dry. It is a pharmacy medicine, so our pharmacist checks it is right for you before it is supplied.
How does it help?
Miconazole is an imidazole antifungal. It damages the outer membrane of the fungus so it cannot grow, and it is also active against some of the bacteria that can take hold in infected skin. Dust the powder onto the affected areas twice a day, and keep using it for about 10 days after the skin has completely cleared, to help stop the infection coming back.
Key benefits
- Treats fungal skin infections such as athlete's foot
- Also works against some bacteria that can infect the skin alongside the fungus
- A dry powder that helps keep sweaty skin dry, with nothing to rub in
- The same twice-a-day dose for adults and children
Who should take care?
Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Do not use it if you are allergic to miconazole, other imidazole antifungals or any of the ingredients, and do not use it for infections of the nails or hair, including the scalp. For use on the skin only; keep it away from your eyes. The powder contains talc, so avoid breathing it in, and take particular care when using it on babies and young children. If you take warfarin or another blood-thinning medicine, tell our pharmacist first, as miconazole can affect how it works. Use with caution in pregnancy and while breastfeeding, and ask our pharmacist before using it. Stop using it and get medical help straight away if you develop a widespread rash, swelling of the face, lips or throat, or difficulty breathing. If the skin is not improving, speak to our pharmacist or your GP.
