What is Daktarin Aktiv Powder Spray 100g?

Daktarin Aktiv Powder Spray is an antifungal powder in an aerosol can, containing miconazole nitrate. It is licensed both to treat athlete's foot and to help prevent it, and the dry powder keeps the skin between the toes dry, which fungi dislike. Shake the can, hold it a few centimetres from the skin and spray the affected area twice a day until the skin has healed.

How does it help?

Miconazole is an imidazole antifungal that damages the fungus's cell wall so it cannot grow and gradually dies off. Because it is a dry powder rather than a cream there is nothing to rub in, so it is quick to apply and easier to use on a foot that is awkward to reach. It is for use on the skin only: spray the affected area twice a day and carry on until the skin has healed.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Do not use if you are allergic to miconazole, other imidazole antifungals or any of the ingredients. Do not use on nail infections, scalp or hair infections, or on broken skin. Keep the spray away from your eyes and mouth and avoid breathing in the powder, especially around babies and young children. It contains alcohol, so keep it away from flames and do not use near heat. If you take warfarin or another blood-thinning medicine, ask our pharmacist first. Use with care in pregnancy and while breastfeeding. Stop and get help straight away if you develop swelling of the face or trouble breathing.
