What is CosmoCol Macrogol 3350 Sachets?

CosmoCol is a macrogol 3350 sachet for chronic constipation. You dissolve each sachet in water and drink it. All three flavours — plain, orange, and lemon & lime — contain exactly the same medicine at the same price; the only difference is taste.

How does it help?

Macrogol holds water in the stool rather than stimulating the bowel. That softens what is already there and makes it easier to pass, which is why it is generally gentler than a stimulant laxative and can be used for longer.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Not for anyone with a blocked or perforated bowel, ileus, or a severe inflammatory bowel condition such as ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease or toxic megacolon. A course for chronic constipation is not normally longer than two weeks unless a prescriber advises otherwise. If constipation is new, persistent, or comes with bleeding, unexplained weight loss or severe pain, speak to our pharmacist or your GP rather than treating it yourself.
