What is Capasal Therapeutic Shampoo 250ml?

A medicated shampoo used to treat scalps that are dry, scaly or flaking, including dandruff, cradle cap in babies, scalp psoriasis and seborrhoeic dermatitis. It is used in place of an ordinary shampoo rather than alongside one, and is a pharmacy medicine, so our team will run through a few questions before handing it over.

How does it help?

The three ingredients do different jobs. Salicylic acid softens and loosens the built-up scale so it can be lifted away during washing. Coconut oil helps soften and moisturise dry scalp skin, which is often tight and uncomfortable. Distilled coal tar helps settle the flaking and itching that come with these conditions.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Do not use on broken, weeping or infected skin. Coal tar can make skin more sensitive to sunlight, so avoid strong sun, sunbeds and UV treatment while you are using it. Keep it out of the eyes and rinse thoroughly with water if any gets in. Coal tar can stain fair, grey or chemically treated hair, and can mark clothing, towels and bedding. Stop using it and speak to us if the scalp becomes more irritated or a rash develops. Tell us if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Our pharmacist checks it is right for you before it is supplied.
