What is Balneum Plus Cream 500g?

Balneum Plus Cream is licensed for the treatment of itching (pruritus), eczema, dermatitis and scaling skin conditions where a hydrating and anti-itch effect is needed. It contains urea 5% and lauromacrogols 3%, and no steroid.

How does it help?

Urea is a humectant: it holds water in the outer layer of the skin and helps soften thickened, scaly patches so they are less tight and less prone to cracking. The lauromacrogols have a mild local anaesthetic action on the skin, which dampens the itch signal. Together they deal with the dryness and the itching that comes with it.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. For external use only — avoid the eyes and mucous membranes. Do not use it on acute erythroderma, or on acutely inflamed, oozing or infected skin, and do not use it if you are sensitive to any of the ingredients. It contains benzyl alcohol, which may cause allergic reactions and mild local irritation, and urea can cause a brief stinging or burning feeling, particularly on children's skin or where skin is broken. As with other emollients, fabric that has been in contact with the cream burns more easily, so do not smoke or go near naked flames. Our pharmacist checks it is right for you before it is dispensed.
