What is Vitality CBD Muscle Balm?

How does it help?

The balm is rubbed into the skin over the area you want to target, where the CBD and botanical oils such as eucalyptus and lavender are absorbed locally to leave the area feeling soothed.

Will a CBD balm make me feel high or affect a drug test?

No — Vitality CBD lab-test their balms at 0% THC, and THC is the cannabis compound behind the high. This one is rubbed into the skin rather than swallowed or inhaled. If your job involves drug testing we’d still suggest checking your employer’s policy, because we can’t speak for any individual test.

Is it a medicine for muscle or joint pain?

No. In the UK a CBD balm like this is a cosmetic, not a licensed medicine, so it can’t be sold as a treatment for pain or inflammation — people use it as a massage balm. See your GP or call NHS 111 if a joint is hot, red or swollen, if pain follows an injury, or if it isn’t settling. Our pharmacist can go through our pain relief range.

What’s in it, and is it suitable for vegans or sensitive skin?

The 50 ml tub holds 300 mg of CBD in a base of coconut oil, beeswax, argan and rosehip oils, with eucalyptus and lavender. The beeswax means it isn’t vegan. Essential oils can irritate reactive skin, so patch-test a small area first, keep it away from the eyes and broken skin, and stop if it stings.

Can I use it if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

Check with our pharmacist, your midwife or your GP first. The Food Standards Agency advises against CBD for people who are pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to conceive; that guidance covers CBD you swallow rather than a skin balm, but there is very little safety information on topical CBD in pregnancy either way.
