What is Solpadeine Headache Soluble Tablets 16?

Solpadeine Headache Soluble is an effervescent tablet that you dissolve in a tumbler of water before drinking. Its two active ingredients are paracetamol and caffeine; this particular tablet in the Solpadeine range contains no codeine.

How does it help?

Paracetamol reduces the pain signals your brain and spinal cord register and helps bring down a fever. Caffeine is included as an adjuvant, meaning it is added alongside the paracetamol to support its pain-relieving effect. Because you dissolve the tablet first, it reaches the stomach already in solution rather than having to break down there.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Do not take it with any other medicine containing paracetamol, and never exceed the stated dose - a paracetamol overdose can cause serious liver damage even when you feel well at the time. It is not for use in pregnancy or while breastfeeding, because of the caffeine. Each tablet contains 427mg of sodium, so speak to us first if you are on a controlled sodium diet. Take extra care if you have liver or kidney disease, including alcohol-related liver disease, and go easy on tea, coffee and energy drinks while taking it. Taking painkillers for headaches over long periods can make the headaches worse, so see your doctor if your headache becomes persistent.
