What is Migraleve Pink Tablets 24?
Migraleve Pink is a pharmacy migraine treatment taken at the very start of an attack. Each tablet contains paracetamol and a low dose of codeine for the pain, plus buclizine, an antihistamine that eases the nausea and vomiting that often come with migraine. It is for short-term use only, when paracetamol, ibuprofen or aspirin on their own have not been enough.
How does it help?
Paracetamol and codeine work together to dull the pain signals of a migraine, with codeine adding to the effect of the paracetamol. Buclizine acts on the part of the brain that triggers sickness, settling the stomach so you are more likely to keep the tablets down and absorb them. The Pink tablets are taken as soon as you feel an attack starting; if pain continues, Migraleve Yellow tablets (which have no buclizine) can be taken every four hours.
Key benefits
- Treats the headache and the sickness of a migraine in one tablet
- Taken at the first sign of an attack, or when you know one is coming
- Can be followed by Migraleve Yellow if the pain returns
- Licensed for adults and children aged 12 and over
Who should take care?
Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Contains codeine, which can cause addiction: do not take for more than 3 days without speaking to a doctor, and be aware that taking painkillers for headaches too often can itself cause headaches. Adults and over-16s take two Pink tablets at the start of an attack, then two Yellow every 4 hours if needed, with no more than 8 Migraleve tablets in 24 hours; 12 to 15 year olds take half these amounts. Do not take with other medicines containing paracetamol. Not suitable if you are breastfeeding, under 12, have breathing problems, a head injury, a bowel obstruction, or know you are a CYP2D6 ultra-rapid metaboliser. Take care if you have asthma, epilepsy, liver or kidney problems, or take MAOI antidepressants, and avoid alcohol. May cause drowsiness - do not drive if affected. Our pharmacist will check it is right for you before it is dispensed.
