A home test kit that measures prostate specific antigen (PSA) in a small finger-prick blood sample, so you have a result to discuss with your GP.

What is Prostate PSA Home Test Kit?

This is a self-test kit for use at home. It measures prostate specific antigen (PSA), a protein made by the prostate gland that can be measured in blood. It is a screening aid only: it does not diagnose any condition, and a PSA level can be raised for several reasons, including an enlarged prostate, a urine infection, recent exercise or recent ejaculation, as well as prostate cancer.

How does it help?

You clean a fingertip, use the lancet supplied to take a few drops of blood, and apply the sample to the test device with the buffer solution provided. The test reacts with PSA in the sample and shows a result in the reading window after the time stated in the instructions. Follow the leaflet timings exactly, as reading the test too early or too late can give a misleading result.

Key benefits

  • Take the sample at home, in your own time, with no appointment needed
  • Result available within minutes of running the test
  • Gives you something concrete to take to your GP if you have been putting off a conversation
  • Everything needed for one test is supplied in the pack

Who should take care?

Always read the instructions before use. This test does not diagnose prostate cancer or any other condition and it does not replace an assessment by your GP. A raised PSA has several possible causes, and a normal result does not rule out a problem. Whatever the result, see your GP if you have urinary symptoms, blood in your urine or semen, bone pain, or a family history of prostate cancer. Do not use the kit after its expiry date, and dispose of the lancet safely. Our pharmacist is happy to talk the result through with you and explain what to do next.
