What is Clearblue Digital Pregnancy Test with Weeks Indicator?

This is a digital home pregnancy test. It detects hCG, the pregnancy hormone, in your urine and shows the result in words on a small screen. If the result is 'Pregnant', it also gives a Weeks Indicator estimate of how long ago you conceived: 1-2 weeks, 2-3 weeks, or more than 3 weeks.

How does it help?

When you are pregnant your body makes the hormone hCG, and the amount rises over the early weeks. The test stick detects hCG in urine and reads its level to estimate the time since conception. You hold the absorbent tip in your urine stream for 5 seconds, or dip it in a collected sample for 20 seconds, and the result appears within 3 minutes.

Who should take care?

Always read the instructions before use. Testing before your period is due is less reliable: in the manufacturer's testing, 4 days before the expected period 65% of pregnancies were detected, so a 'Not Pregnant' result at that stage may be wrong and you should test again when your period is due. If testing early, use the first urine of the day, and always use it for an accurate Weeks Indicator result. The Weeks Indicator is an estimate, not the way a doctor or midwife dates a pregnancy; they count from the first day of your last period. Fertility drugs containing hCG, a recent pregnancy, approaching the menopause, ectopic pregnancy and ovarian cysts can give misleading results. If your result is 'Pregnant', see your GP or midwife, and get medical advice promptly if you have pain low in your tummy or unexpected bleeding. The test contains a battery and small parts, so keep it away from children.
