What is Piriteze Children's Hayfever & Allergy Syrup Sugar Free Banana 70ml?
Piriteze Children's Hayfever & Allergy Syrup is a sugar-free, banana-flavoured liquid containing the antihistamine cetirizine. It relieves the nose and eye symptoms of hay fever and year-round allergic rhinitis, such as sneezing, a runny or itchy nose and itchy, watery eyes, and eases the symptoms of urticaria (hives). It can be used by adults and children aged 2 and over.
How does it help?
When your body reacts to something like pollen, dust or pet hair, it releases a chemical called histamine, which causes sneezing, itching, a runny nose, watery eyes and itchy skin rashes. Cetirizine blocks the receptors that histamine acts on, so these symptoms are reduced.
Key benefits
- Sugar-free banana-flavoured liquid that many children find easy to take
- Dosed by age, from 2 years upwards
- Eases both nose and eye symptoms of hay fever and year-round allergies
- Also eases the itch and rash of hives
Who should take care?
Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Not recommended for children under 2. Give 2.5ml twice a day to children aged 2 to 6, 5ml twice a day to children aged 6 to 12, and 10ml once a day to adults and children over 12. Do not use if allergic to cetirizine, hydroxyzine, any piperazine medicine or any other ingredient, or if you have end-stage kidney disease. People with kidney problems may need a lower dose, so ask our pharmacist. Take care if you have epilepsy or are at risk of seizures, or if you are prone to difficulty passing urine, for example with a spinal cord problem or an enlarged prostate. The syrup contains sorbitol (315mg per ml), so anyone with hereditary fructose intolerance should not take it, and it contains methyl and propyl parahydroxybenzoate, which may cause allergic reactions, possibly delayed. Some people feel drowsy, so take care with alcohol and before driving. Stop it 3 days before an allergy skin test. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, ask our pharmacist first. Our pharmacist checks it is right for you before it is supplied.
