What is Clarityn Allergy Syrup for Children 60ml?
Clarityn Allergy Syrup is a liquid antihistamine containing loratadine, for adults and children aged 2 and over. It relieves the symptoms of allergic rhinitis, such as hay fever, including sneezing, a runny or itchy nose and itchy, watery eyes. It is also licensed for the itch and rash of chronic idiopathic urticaria, which is long-lasting hives with no known cause.
How does it help?
When your body reacts to something like pollen, it releases a chemical called histamine, which causes the sneezing, itching, runny nose and watery eyes of an allergy. Loratadine blocks the receptors that histamine acts on, so these symptoms are reduced. Its effect lasts long enough for a single dose each day. It is not usually sedating, although a small number of people do feel drowsy.
Key benefits
- One dose a day, with or without food
- A liquid that many children find easy to take
- Eases both nose and eye symptoms of hay fever
- Also licensed for the itch of long-lasting hives
Who should take care?
Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Not for children under 2. Give 10ml once a day to adults, children over 12, and children aged 2 to 12 who weigh more than 30kg; give 5ml once a day to children aged 2 to 12 who weigh 30kg or less. Do not use if you or your child is allergic to loratadine or any of the other ingredients. The syrup contains sorbitol and maltitol, so it should not be taken by anyone with the rare inherited condition fructose intolerance; it also contains propylene glycol and sodium benzoate. People with severe liver problems need a lower dose taken every other day, so speak to our pharmacist or your doctor first. Stop taking it at least 48 hours before an allergy skin test. If symptoms do not improve, speak to a pharmacist or doctor. Our pharmacist is happy to check it is right for you before it is supplied.
