What is Feminax Express 342mg Tablets (Ibuprofen Lysine)?

Feminax Express is a pain-relief tablet for period pain and other everyday aches. Each tablet contains ibuprofen lysine 342 mg, which is equivalent to 200 mg of ibuprofen.

How does it help?

Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) that reduces the body's production of the chemicals (prostaglandins) that cause pain, inflammation and period cramps. The lysine form is designed to be absorbed quickly.

Who should take care?

As an NSAID, take care if you have asthma, or a history of stomach ulcers or bleeding, and avoid in the last three months of pregnancy. Is Feminax Express just ibuprofen?
Yes, in a faster-dissolving form. Each tablet is ibuprofen lysine 342 mg, which is equivalent to 200 mg of ordinary ibuprofen — the same amount of active painkiller as a standard ibuprofen tablet. The lysine salt dissolves more readily, so it’s absorbed sooner. The 342 mg on the box is the weight of the salt, not a bigger dose.
How quickly does it work?
Faster than standard ibuprofen tablets. Product information for ibuprofen lysine reports peak blood levels at around 35 minutes on an empty stomach, compared with one to two hours for ordinary ibuprofen. It’s still the same medicine underneath, though — the speed is about how quickly the tablet dissolves, not about it being stronger.
What is the difference between Feminax Express and Feminax Ultra?
Different medicines from the same brand. Feminax Express is ibuprofen lysine and sits on the general-sale shelf. Feminax Ultra is naproxen 250 mg, a longer-acting anti-inflammatory licensed specifically for period pain, and it’s a pharmacy medicine — so our pharmacist runs a short suitability check before supplying it. Both are anti-inflammatories, so they aren’t taken together.
When is period pain something to get checked?
Period pain that settles with a painkiller and a hot water bottle is usually normal.
