What is Clarinaze Allergy Control 0.05% Nasal Spray?

Clarinaze Allergy Control is a nasal spray containing the corticosteroid mometasone furoate, used by adults aged 18 and over to relieve the nasal symptoms of hay fever and other allergies. It helps with a blocked, runny or itchy nose and sneezing.

How does it help?

Mometasone furoate is a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation in the lining of the nose, calming the allergic response that causes congestion, sneezing and a runny nose. It works best with regular daily use.

Key benefits

  • Relieves blocked, runny and itchy nose
  • Contains the corticosteroid mometasone
  • Targets nasal allergy symptoms at the source
  • For adults aged 18 and over
  • Most effective with regular use

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. For use in the nose only, and it may take a few days of regular use to feel the full effect. Don't use if you're allergic to any of the ingredients. Speak to our pharmacist if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, taking other medicines, or have any ongoing health conditions. Our pharmacist checks every order before it's supplied.

Common questions

Is Clarinaze the same as Nasonex?
Both contain the same corticosteroid — mometasone furoate, 50 micrograms per spray. Nasonex is a prescription-only brand, while Clarinaze is licensed as a pharmacy medicine, so our pharmacist can supply it after a short suitability check instead of you needing a prescription. The steroid inside, and its strength, are the same.
How long does Clarinaze take to work?
Not straight away. In studies some people noticed a difference within 12 hours of the first dose, but the full benefit often isn’t reached inside the first 48 hours — so keep using it daily rather than judging it after one try. If there’s no improvement after 14 days, get medical advice.
Who shouldn’t use Clarinaze?
It’s for adults aged 18 and over. Don’t use it if you’re allergic to any of the ingredients, if you have an untreated infection in your nose (herpes simplex, for example), or if you’ve had recent nasal surgery or an injury to your nose — wait until that has healed. Tell our pharmacist if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding.
How long can I use it for, and when should I see a GP?
The licence allows up to three months’ continuous use before you need to check with a doctor. Because it covers year-round (perennial) allergic rhinitis as well as hay fever, some people use it outside the pollen season. Get medical advice if symptoms get worse, or if they still aren’t well controlled even though the spray is helping.
