What is Chlamydia Test Kit?

A discreet home sample-collection kit for chlamydia, a common sexually transmitted infection that often causes no symptoms at all, which is why testing matters after unprotected sex or a new partner. The kit contains everything needed to collect a urine sample at home, a set of instructions and a prepaid envelope to return the sample to the laboratory. It is sent and returned in plain packaging.

How does it help?

Collect a urine sample following the instructions in the kit, seal it in the tube provided and post it in the prepaid envelope. The laboratory analyses the sample for chlamydia and emails your result, usually within around three working days of receiving it. Chlamydia can take up to two weeks after exposure to become detectable, so the kit is designed to be used at least 14 days after any possible exposure.

Who should take care?

Always read the instructions before use. This kit detects genital chlamydia only; it does not test for infection of the throat or rectum, or for other sexually transmitted infections. Test at least 14 days after the possible exposure, and if you are re-testing after treatment wait at least six weeks to avoid a false positive. A negative result does not rule out an infection caught more recently. If you have symptoms such as pain when passing urine, unusual discharge, pelvic or testicular pain, or bleeding between periods or after sex, do not wait for the result: contact our pharmacist, your GP or a sexual health clinic. Free testing is also available through NHS sexual health services.
