What is Savlon Antiseptic Cream?

Savlon Antiseptic Cream is a licensed antiseptic for cleansing and helping to prevent infection in all types of minor skin lesions - small wounds, cuts and grazes, blisters, minor burns and minor skin problems. It contains two antiseptics, cetrimide and chlorhexidine, in a cream base.

How does it help?

Chlorhexidine and cetrimide act against a wide range of the bacteria that can get into broken skin, so the cream helps stop a small wound from becoming infected while it heals. Clean the area first, then apply the cream over it. It is for use on the skin only.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. For external use only. Keep it out of the eyes and ears: chlorhexidine in the eye has caused serious eye injury, so if any gets in, rinse straight away with plenty of water and get medical advice. Do not use it if you have ever reacted to chlorhexidine or cetrimide - chlorhexidine can rarely cause severe allergic reactions. The cream contains cetostearyl alcohol and parabens, which can cause skin reactions. Deep or large wounds, animal bites, burns bigger than a small area, or a wound that looks infected need medical attention rather than self-care. If symptoms persist, stop using it and speak to our pharmacist or your doctor.
