What is Germolene Wound Care Cream 30g?

A straightforward antiseptic cream for minor wounds - cuts, grazes and small burns and scalds. It is a single-ingredient cream, so it is a useful choice when you want an antiseptic without an added anaesthetic.

How does it help?

Chlorhexidine is an antiseptic that binds to the surface of bacteria and disrupts their cell membranes, so the bacteria cannot survive on the skin. Applying it to a cleaned minor wound reduces the bacterial load at the site, which lowers the chance of the wound becoming infected while it heals. The cream base also keeps the area from drying out.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. For external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes and ears, and with the brain and the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord. Do not use if you have ever reacted badly to chlorhexidine - allergic reactions are uncommon but can be serious, so stop and get medical help straight away if a rash, swelling or breathing difficulty develops. Deep, dirty or heavily bleeding wounds, and wounds that look infected, need to be seen by a nurse or GP rather than treated at home.
