What is Germolene Antiseptic Cream 55g?

A first-aid cream for the everyday knocks that do not need a nurse: minor cuts and grazes, small burns and scalds, insect stings, blisters, chapped skin and spots. A 55g tube is a sensible size for a home or car first-aid kit.

How does it help?

It does two jobs at once. Chlorhexidine digluconate is an antiseptic - it damages the outer membrane of bacteria on the skin surface, which lowers the chance of a minor wound becoming infected. Phenol has a mild local anaesthetic effect on the nerve endings in the skin, which is what takes the edge off the stinging and itching while the skin heals.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. For external use only. Do not use on large areas of broken skin, on deep or puncture wounds, or on serious burns, and do not use it if you are allergic to phenol or chlorhexidine. Keep it away from the eyes, mouth and inside of the ear. Speak to our pharmacist before using it on a young child. See your GP if the wound looks infected - spreading redness, pus, swelling or a temperature - or if it is not healing.
