Corsodyl Dental Gel is a chlorhexidine antiseptic gel brushed onto the teeth and gums to reduce plaque, help treat gum disease, and support healing after dental treatment.
What is Corsodyl Dental Gel 1% 50g?
Corsodyl Dental Gel is an antiseptic gel containing chlorhexidine, used on a toothbrush in place of ordinary toothpaste. It is licensed to inhibit plaque, as an aid in treating and preventing gingivitis (inflamed, bleeding gums), to support oral hygiene, to help gums heal after periodontal surgery or treatment, and in the management of recurrent mouth ulcers and recurrent oral thrush.
How does it help?
Chlorhexidine is an antiseptic that binds to the surfaces of the teeth and gums and keeps working for hours after brushing. By reducing the bacteria that build up as plaque, it helps calm gum inflammation and gives sore or healing gums a cleaner environment. Brush with about an inch of gel for around a minute, once or twice a day, then spit it out. Because some ingredients in ordinary toothpaste reduce its effect, use Corsodyl at a different time from your usual toothpaste.
Key benefits
- Reduces the plaque that causes gum disease
- An aid to treating and preventing gingivitis (inflamed, bleeding gums)
- Helps gums heal after dental surgery or treatment
- Useful in managing recurrent mouth ulcers and recurrent oral thrush
Who should take care?
Always read the patient information leaflet before use. For use in the mouth only - do not swallow it, and keep it out of your eyes and ears (rinse well with water if it gets in). Stop using it and speak to a pharmacist or dentist if your mouth becomes sore, swollen or irritated, and seek medical help straight away for any swelling of the face or difficulty breathing. Chlorhexidine can stain teeth, tongue and fillings; the staining is not permanent and your dentist can remove it. Ordinary toothpaste can reduce its effect, so use the two at different times of day. Not for children under 12 unless a healthcare professional recommends it.
