What is Anthisan Bite and Sting Cream 20g?

Anthisan Bite and Sting Cream is a 20g tube of antihistamine cream containing mepyramine maleate 2%, licensed for the symptomatic relief of skin irritation caused by insect bites, insect stings and nettle stings.

How does it help?

When an insect bites or a nettle stings, the skin releases histamine — and histamine is what makes the spot itch, redden and swell. Mepyramine is an antihistamine, so applying it to the bite blocks histamine where the reaction is actually happening, calming the itch at the site rather than through the whole body.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Not for children under 2. Do not use it on eczema, on extensively broken, cut or grazed skin, on sunburn, or over large areas of skin. Do not apply it repeatedly to the same area for longer than three days, and stop straight away if the skin becomes sensitised. Get urgent medical help for signs of a severe allergic reaction — swelling of the face, lips or tongue, or difficulty breathing — and speak to us or your GP if a bite becomes hot, spreading, painful and increasingly red, which can mean it is infected.
