What is Hedrin 4% Lotion 150ml?

A clear, odourless lotion containing 4% dimeticone, licensed for getting rid of head lice. It is applied to dry hair, left on for at least eight hours or overnight, then washed out, with a second application seven days later to complete the course.

How does it help?

Dimeticone is a silicone that coats each louse and blocks the tiny openings it breathes through, upsetting its water balance so that it dies. Because this is a physical action rather than a chemical poison, resistance is unlikely to develop. The second application a week later deals with any lice that have hatched from eggs since the first treatment. Combing with a fine-toothed detection comb after treatment helps remove dead lice and eggs.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. For external use only. Not recommended for babies under six months without medical supervision. Keep it out of the eyes. Treated hair catches fire easily, so keep it well away from naked flames and lit cigarettes and let it dry naturally rather than using a hairdryer. Stop using it and speak to our pharmacist if a rash or other sign of an allergic reaction develops. Only treat people who have live lice, and check everyone in the household with a detection comb.
