What is Nitrolingual GTN 400mcg Pump Spray 200 Doses?
Nitrolingual is a pump spray containing glyceryl trinitrate, usually called GTN. GTN is a nitrate medicine. It is sprayed under the tongue to relieve the chest pain of an angina attack, and can also be used just before an activity that you know brings on your angina. Each bottle gives 200 metered sprays of 400 micrograms. It is for adults whose angina has already been diagnosed by a doctor.
How does it help?
GTN relaxes the muscles in the walls of the blood vessels, which widens them. This reduces how hard the heart has to work and lets more blood reach the heart muscle, which eases the pain of angina. Sprayed under the tongue, it is absorbed quickly through the lining of the mouth, so it starts to work fast. The effect lasts about half an hour.
Key benefits
- Sprayed under the tongue and absorbed quickly, so it can be used as soon as an angina attack starts
- Can also be used a few minutes before exercise or another activity that you know brings on your angina
- 200 metered sprays per bottle, and the leaflet advises always keeping a spare
- Supplied as a pharmacy medicine, so our pharmacist reviews your answers before it is dispensed
Who should take care?
Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Nitrolingual is for adults aged 18 and over whose angina has been diagnosed by a doctor. Sit or rest before using it, spray one or two puffs under the tongue, close your mouth and do not breathe the spray in. Follow the leaflet's advice on repeat doses. Call 999 straight away if your pain does not settle, lasts longer than usual, or feels different or worse than your usual angina. Never use it if you take sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil or riociguat, because together they can cause a dangerous fall in blood pressure. Headache, flushing and dizziness are common. Stand up slowly afterwards, avoid alcohol, and wait at least five minutes before driving. Tell us if you have glaucoma, low blood pressure or a heart valve problem, if you take other medicines that lower blood pressure, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Our pharmacist reviews your answers and checks it is right for you before it is dispensed.
