Who should take care?

Is Floradix suitable for vegans?
It’s suitable for vegetarians but not vegans — alongside the herb and fruit extracts the formula contains honey, yeast extract and wheat germ extract, so it isn’t gluten-free either. Salus makes a yeast-free, gluten-free vegan version called Floravital; ask our pharmacist, or browse our other vitamins and supplements.
Does it need to go in the fridge once opened?
Yes. There are no chemical preservatives in it, so the manufacturer says to stand the bottle upright in the fridge once opened and finish it within four weeks. Worth bearing in mind when you choose between the 250 ml and 500 ml bottles — the smaller one suits a shorter run.
Is it the same as iron tablets from the doctor?
No. Floradix is a food supplement providing 15 mg of iron per 20 ml daily dose, with vitamin C and B vitamins — it isn’t a licensed medicine. Iron deficiency anaemia is confirmed by a blood test and treated with much stronger prescribed iron, usually for about six months. A supplement supports your intake; it doesn’t replace that.
I’m always tired — should I get checked?
Very possibly. The NHS lists tiredness and low energy, breathlessness, noticeable heartbeats, pale skin and headaches as signs of iron deficiency anaemia, and a simple full blood count at your GP surgery confirms it. If you’ve been tired for weeks, or you have heavy periods or any unexplained bleeding, get checked rather than self-treating.
