What is Duofilm Wart and Verruca Paint 15ml?

Duofilm is a topical paint for warts and verrucas. It comes in a 15ml amber bottle with its own applicator and is dabbed onto the wart once a day, over a course that can run for several weeks.

How does it help?

Salicylic acid is a keratolytic — it loosens the bonds holding together the hardened skin cells that make up a wart, so the softened top layer can be rubbed away a little at a time with an emery board or pumice stone. Lactic acid softens the skin further and helps the salicylic acid work its way in. Layer by layer the wart is worn down, and the mild irritation is thought to prompt the immune system to tackle the underlying virus.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. For external use only. Do not use it on the face, on the genital or anal area, on moles, birthmarks or mucous membranes, on broken, irritated, reddened or infected skin, or on any wart that has hair growing from it, red edges or an unusual colour. Do not use it if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Not for children under 2, and children under 12 should be supervised. If you have diabetes, circulation problems or numbness in your hands or feet, do not use it without medical supervision. It contains colophony and 10% v/v alcohol, is flammable, and can irritate the eyes, so keep it away from the eyes and mucous membranes. Consider other options if the warts cover an area bigger than 5cm². Stop and speak to us if the surrounding skin becomes sore, and see your GP if the wart has not cleared after 12 weeks.
