What is Adcal-D3 Chewable Tablets 56?

Adcal-D3 is a chewable tablet that gives you calcium and vitamin D3 together. It is licensed to correct a shortage of calcium and vitamin D, and as an add-on to specific osteoporosis treatments where the diet does not provide enough of either. The usual dose is two tablets a day, one in the morning and one in the evening.

How does it help?

Calcium is the mineral your bones are built from, and vitamin D3 helps your gut absorb that calcium and move it into bone. Taking the two together means the calcium you swallow is more likely to be used where it is needed. The tablets are chewed rather than swallowed whole.

Who should take care?

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Do not take it if you have high calcium levels in your blood or urine, an overactive parathyroid gland, sarcoidosis, severe kidney disease or a history of kidney stones, unless your doctor has advised it. Tell our pharmacist if you already take vitamin D or calcium in another product, or if you take digoxin, a thiazide water tablet or a bisphosphonate. Leave a gap of at least two hours before or after tetracycline antibiotics and four hours before or after quinolone antibiotics or iron tablets. Long-term use may need blood and kidney checks.
