Questions, answered plainly
Why can I only order one pack?
Our Patient Group Direction sets the first supply at one pack, with a pharmacist review before any further supply — so the online order is a single 28-tablet pack. Once you're established on it, choose a quantity marked repeat supply — the consultation asks about your previous supply and any side effects, and our pharmacist reviews every order.
Does it actually work?
For most men it slows or stops further loss, and some regrow hair, but it only works while you keep taking it. Results take 3–6 months to show.
What are the risks?
See the safety information above — a small number of men experience mood or sexual side effects. Our pharmacist will go through these with you before you start.
Can I use it with minoxidil?
Many men use both. Regaine (minoxidil) is available without a prescription — see our hair loss page.
What should I do if I miss a dose of finasteride?
Take your next tablet at the usual time the following day — do not take a double dose to make up for the one you missed. Finasteride is taken as one tablet once daily, with or without food, and the tablet should be swallowed whole. If you are unsure about your doses, our pharmacist can talk it through with you.
What happens if I stop taking finasteride?
Finasteride only works while you keep taking it. If you stop, the benefit begins to reverse within about six months, and hair count returns to its pre-treatment level by roughly nine to twelve months. Continued daily use is needed to sustain the benefit. If you are thinking of stopping, our pharmacist can discuss it with you.
Is finasteride safe if my partner is pregnant?
Finasteride is for men only. Women who are or may become pregnant must not handle crushed or broken tablets, because absorption could harm a male foetus. Small amounts of finasteride may also be present in semen, so if your partner is or may be pregnant, use a condom during sexual activity. Keep tablets whole and in their original packaging.
